She brings a wealth of experience and knowledge to our Mt Barker dental surgery which is a one-stop shop for dental implants, providing the best quality outcome with minimal visits. Our patients can access all treatment from consultation, radiographs, removal of existing teeth, immediate placement of implant and temporary crown, to permanent replacement with a porcelain or ceramic crown.

About dental implants

Dental implants are a quality, long-term solution designed to permanently replace missing or failing teeth. A standard single-tooth dental implant is made up of the replacement root and the crown. The implant itself is titanium and becomes the replacement root of the tooth and supports the porcelain crown which sits above the gum. Once completed, the implant looks natural and seamlessly fits in to your smile.

How dental implants can be used:

  • 1 implant can replace 1 or 2 missing teeth.
  • 2 implants can replace for 3 or 4 missing teeth. An Implant retained bridge replaces a few teeth missing next to one another.
  • 4 to 6 implants can support an entire arch of an implant retained denture or porcelain bridge. It replaces entire arches of missing teeth often where the denture has poor stability or function.

Benefits of dental implants

When replacing one or two teeth the great benefit of implants is the finished crowns feels just like your natural teeth and are easily cleaned and maintained. The benefits of replacing a denture with an implant supported denture or bridge is that it improves your quality of life by improving your appearance, your ability to eat (and once again taste the nuances of food and wine) and your health.

The five stages of dental implant treatment:

  1. Dental Implant Consult – your dentist will assess if your needs suit a dental implant. If they do X-rays will be taken so the implant position can be planned.
  2. Tooth Extraction – If your tooth or part of your tooth is still present, we carefully removed it to make way for the implant. If your tooth has gone, we go straight to implant placement.
  3. Implant Placement – The titanium implant will often be inserted immediately after the tooth has been extracted, but not in all cases. Placement is a gentle non-traumatic procedure and most patients won’t even need a Panadol afterwards.
  4. Implant Integration Period – It usually takes three months for the titanium implant to integrate, or become one with your natural bone. This process is called osseo-integration. If a patient has undergone a bone graft, the integration period may be longer.
  5. Implant Crown – An impression is taken and the crown of the tooth is designed to match your smile and screwed into the implant.

How long do dental implants last?

Provided you have a good oral hygiene regime (which your dentist is happy to discuss with you), and have regular check-ups, your dental implants can last 30+ years.

Anaesthetic/sedation options

Our clinic is calming and our staff friendly and reassuring. In addition, Mt Barker Dentists are fully trained to administer a range of anaesthetic and sedation options from a local anaesthetic or happy gas through to intravenous sedation in the surgery performed by an expert anaesthetist. Our dentists also offer our patients dentistry under general anaesthetic or intravenous sedation at the Mt Barker District Hospital. Each option has its own benefits and we’ll be only too pleased to discuss your personal needs and provide a recommendation.

Dental implant success rate

We are proud to have achieved a 99% success rate over 26 years of performing dental implants at Mt Barker. However 1% of implants fail for no obvious reason. If this should happen Mt Barker Dentists will either replace the affected implant at no additional cost or reimburse your costs.
