Orthodontic Treatment

People of all ages benefit from orthodontic treatment to correct gaps and poorly aligned teeth. Orthodontic braces and aligners are a very effective way of straightening teeth and there are many state of the art orthodontic appliances now available.

To complement our own minor orthodontic services, specialist Dr Berna Kim – the Smiling Orthodontist –consults from our Mt Barker dental surgery.  More information on Dr Berna. Full orthodontics (braces)

Full orthodontics, or braces, is the traditional way of straightening teeth and giving you a beautiful smile through the movement of your teeth. Braces are suitable for most people and highly recommended for teenagers.

Braces produce the most accurate and stunning results of the orthodontic options. As well as beautiful aesthetic results, full orthodontics can also treat Temperomandibular Joint Dysfunction (TMD) and jaw pain.

However it is the long time of treatment, discomfort and compromised aesthetics that usually leads people to look for an alternative option. So book in for an orthodontic consultation at our hills dental surgery to see which option best suits your needs.

Partial orthodontics

If you had braces as a teenager and are noticing some relapse, or if you’d like your front teeth straightened, partial orthodontics are the quick, convenient, efficient alternative to full orthodontics, producing great results in a short time frame. They generally only include your front 6 to 8 teeth, don’t go back to your molars and don’t require the usual two year treatment time. The brackets can be either white ceramic or traditional metal brackets. Not everyone is suited to partial orthodontics, so book in for a consultation to discuss your needs.

Clear aligners

Clear aligners are a great way to straighten and correct minor tooth alignment, and are a great alternative for adults who aren’t comfortable wearing metal braces. A series of plastic retainers that slowly reposition teeth by gradual force, clear aligners are comfortable, easy to clean and are removed during eating and drinking.

Orthodontic extractions

If a teenager needs to have adult teeth removed as part of their orthodontic treatment, we are happy to assist. Teenagers are incredibly resilient and will heal quickly after this treatment. Parents can rest assured that their teenager should be up-and-about in a few hours.
